YU Yureka to get a Lollipop update in first week of April

Image
Micromax birthed YU Televentures has been taking direct shots with tongue-in-cheek references at Mi India as part of its online promotion for its next handset. In the meantime, the existing owners of the Yureka  handset raised a query against the anticipated Lollipop update. YU support team's email response to many concluded that the Lollipop update for the Yureka can be expected in the first week of April. For Yureka, the Lollipop update would basically arrive packaged as the CyanogenMod 12S version. Apparently, the CyanogenMod 12S update has been delayed for all supporting devices. Even OnePlus missed at along with the deadline for OxygenOS.

Micromax Bolt S300 seen online at Rs 3300

Image
Although its maker is yet to officially announce the phone, the new Micromax Bolt S300 has nonetheless been spotted online in India as well as in Russia. The device will apparently be sold in India at Rs 3300, and will offer 3G support through its entry-level components. The Micromax Bolt S300 runs the Android 4.4 KitKat OS out of the box, and given its low price tag, we can rule out any possibility of a future Lollipop update. This handset was first spotted on the company’s Russian website, while it was then revealed along with its cost by Mumbai-based retailer, Mahesh telecom through its official Twitter account. The Bolt S300 features 4GB worth of internal storage space, which is accompanied by a microSD card slot that supports an additional 32GB. It is powered by a 1200mAh battery which is capable of delivering 4.5 hours of talktime and 155 hours of standby time. Here’s a neat look at the main specs of the Micromax Bolt S300: – Display: 4-inch, 480 x 800 pixels – OS:

Verizon's LG G2 receives Android 5.0 via an OTA update

Image
For Verizon customers sporting the LG G2 , today is a day that they have been dreaming about for some time. Android 5.0 is now on the way to the handset via an OTA update and changes the GUI so that it follows the LG G3  and the Material Design look of Android 5.0. The Notification panel will require a single swipe up to display Notifications and Quick Settings at a single time. Swiping up again will dismiss Quick Settings, leaving the Notifications on the screen. Other changes include Lock Screen notifications, and the new "Recent Apps" menu which includes  Screen Pinning . The latter prevents the phone from opening any other app except the one that is pinned, until the user decides to unlock it. Holding the "Back" and "Recent" buttons will unpin the phone. Also included are the 64-bit ART compiler that opens apps faster, and Project Volta for enhanced battery life. Because of the size of the update, you should make sure that you are connected to

Xperia C3 and Xperia T2 Ultra will get Android 5.0 Lollipop soon.

Image
Earlier this month, Sony suggested that only xperia Z devices  would be updated to Android Lollipop, without saying anything about handsets like the Xperia E3, Xperia C3, Xperia M2, Xperia T3, Xperia T2 Ultra, and so on. Fortunately, some of these smartphones will get Lollipop after all.  Sony confirmed that the Xperia C3  and Xperia T2 ultra  would be updated to Android 5.0, though for now it can't give us exact release dates. Available since last year, both the Xperia C3 and Xperia T2 Ultra are mid-range devices that feature Snapdragon 400 processors and 1 GB of RAM, so we are hoping that other similar Xperias will also get Lollipop at some point.  As you may know, Sony already started  to push Android Lollipop updates to the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, and Xperia Z2. The Xperia Z2 Tablet is also ready for the update (Sony says that it should get it starting next week).

Asus ZenFone 2 (including the 4 GB RAM model) officially launches today in Europe

Image
The first European market to get the new handset is France, where customers will be able to find the ZenFone 2 via Asus Shop, as well as at locations like Auchan, Darty, and Cdiscount.  Asus is bringing three ZenFone 2 models to Europe, all running Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.  First we have the ZenFone 2 ZE551ML, which is the series' flagship, offering features like a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor clocked at 2.34 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, 5 MP front-facing camera, 13 MP rear camera, and 32 GB of internal memory. For a limited period of time, Asus France will sell the ZenFone 2 ZE551ML for just €299 (its regular price will be €349).  The second ZenFone 2 model, the ZE550ML, also comes with a 5.5-inch screen, but its resolution is of only 720 x 1280 pixels. The ZE550ML further features a quad-core 1.8 GHz Intel Atom Z3560 processor, 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of storage space. The handset costs €249. Finally, the cheapest ZenFone 2 is

Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. HTC One M9

Image
Introduction The last two generations of HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S were separated by the looks versus practicality debate. Samsung's revamped design erodes this difference, while HTC stepped up its camera game HTC once ruled the Android world, but has since been supplanted by Samsung. Still, last year the companies' trajectories were reversing once again - Samsung's streak of record profits ended, as did HTC's streak of quarters in the red. Samsung Galaxy S6 edge survives over 20 minutes under water

Image
Samsung didn’t waterproof the new Galaxy S6 and S6 edge like it did with their predecessor. So, what happens if you drop your Galaxy S6 edge in water?  TechSmartt  decided to find out and dunked the an S6 edge into a bowl of water with the stopwatch running. The phone lasted over 20 minutes before powering off. That's a lot more than can be expected from a phone with no official water resistance rating, but it was not without taking some damage. After some drying and charging the Galaxy S6 edge came back to life, though there was still water in the device (visible in the front-facing camera. The phone also tended to reboot or even not boot at all after the experiment. So, definitely don’t go put your Galaxy S6/S6 edge in water on purpose, though it looks like it has a good chance of surviving an accidental drop if you pull it out quickly and dry it properly. Note that depths plays a part, an IPX7 rating for example specifies up to 1m of water.

HTC Butterfly 3 to allegedly be exclusive to the Asian markets

Image
Perhaps unsurprisingly so, the upcoming HTC Butterfly 3 is said to be exclusive to the Asian markets. This information comes from the  upleaks  Twitter account. The Butterfly series has mostly been intended for the Asian markets, with both the previous phones launching in Asia first and then had a limited release elsewhere. The Butterfly 3, too, is said to launch in Japan first but will then likely be available in some other markets, such as India. If you're outside Asia, however, you likely won't see that phone in official form but HTC might have some similar variant for you.

iPhone 6c rear cover possibliy pictured - new 4-inch iPhone confirmed?

Image
Last week, we heard some noise about Apple launching 3 new iPhones this year - one of them being a new iPhone 6c to complement the purported iPhone 6s and 6s Plus facelifts. These rumors certainly sound credible, considering a refresh of the iPhone 6 duo is in order, and the market for a smaller, less pricey iPhone still exists. By the sound of it, Apple will return to the iPhone 5s' 4-inch form factor, but it will keep NFC connectivity, TouchID sensor, and Gorilla Glass around, while switching the metal build for a cost-efficient plastic back shell. Talking about the shell, mobile parts reseller Future Supplier may have landed a sneak peak at the iPhone 6c's plastic back cover. The shell in the photos below is sized for a 5-inch iPhone 5 or 5s, and looks largely identical to the back cover on the iPhone 5c. Still, there are two subtle, yet important differences - first, the camera flash cut out on the purported iPhone 6c back cover has an oval shape, like that of the iP

Asus to out a Zenfone 2 facelift with fingerprint sensor this year

Image
The Zenfone 2  s proving to be a very popular phone, especially in its 5.5" 1080p reincarnation, which also includes a model with 4 GB of RAM. This one hasn't even reached   stateside just  yet the Asus CEO already spilled the beans on an upcoming Zenfone 3 that might pop up with a fingerprint sensor attached.  Not only that, but the fingerprint recognition element would apparently make a cameo at Asus with an upgraded Zenfone 2 version, which will receive the facelift in the second half of the year, said Asus’s chief executive Jerry Shen in an interview with Chinese media.  Now, what would the changes to the updated Zenfone 2 entail in H2, he didn't specify, and talked about the fingerprint scanner only. Given that the 5.5" model with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage costs just $320   in the asus home land, we can only imagine what would be an even better value for the money a few months from now.

HTC One E9+ gets official in China.

Image
HTC has quietly introduced the new One E9+ smartphone in the Chinese market. The smartphone was listed on the company website over the weekend. The pricing and availability details are unclear at the moment, but we hope to hear from the company soon. The smartphone features a dual-tone design with a metal frame and plastic back. Like other One-series phones, it also packs the BoomSound front-facing speakers with Dolby Audio enhancements. Android 5.1 update brings new version of TouchWiz to Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Image
The first Samsung devices to get the Android 5.1 update will be the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. But don't expect the update to be pushed out soon. Android 5.1 isn't scheduled to be rolled out by Samsung until the second half of the year. With much of the blotware removed on the   new versio of the TouchWiz  , the result is a lighter skin that runs faster. Samsung says that the new UI is 40% lig hter than the prior version. And according to a source who has knowledge of  Samsung's plans, the company was inspired more by its own Tizen OS than by Android when developing the latest TouchWiz build.  TouchWiz remains bright and colorful. But despite the changes made to the icons, many will still find them to be cartoonish, a criticism about TouchWiz that will not go away even with this new iteration. Overall, the new TouchWiz is bound to be considered a big step in the right direction. The good news for Galaxy Note 4 owners is that they will get to experience it once th
