Samsung is apparently quite proud of the manufacturing process it used to arrive at the metal-and-glass unibody of the S6 Edge flagship with its curved display, and for a good reason. The flexible AMOLED panel uses a plastic substrate, instead of the usual glass one, allowing it to be bent to the sides, and still display vivid imagery. How do you put the protective cover glass on top of the bent AMOLED in precisely the same side-sloping degree, though?

Well, Samsung is using a homebrew technology that it calls "3D Thermoforming," placing the reinforced glass between two moulds, heating it up, and then pressing it into the perfect symmetrical shape we see forming the sides of the Galaxy S6 edge. Samsung just outed a video that touts the rest of the process that went into creating the unique Galaxy S6 edge handset, and there is plenty of "ultrasonically fusing" and "we are digital craftsmen" terminology to go around.

Note that depths plays a part, an IPX7 rating for example specifies up to 1m of water.

The Apple Watch is here! Kind of. Pre-orders are now open online, which is honestly not as exciting as waiting in line for days in anticipation of the next big thing. However, the actual watches will take weeks, and for most people more than a month to arrive, as shipping times are surprisingly long. Apple Watch Sport ships in June (!)
